if anyone is interested in this, we recieved this email. read, and discuss...lol
Message:
Hello,
My name is Michele Spinak and I work on a program you may be familiar with that airs on Discovery Health Channel called I'm Pregnant and...
The show airs Tuesday nights at 9:30pm. Four out of our six episodes have aired. They have been very successful so we have been asked to gear up for a second season.
We are doing our initial outreach for the second season and one topic we are looking to include is I'm Pregnant and...a Furry. I was hoping to speak with someone in greater detail about the program and the outreach I am doing. Please give me a call at your earliest convenience. I look forward to hearing from you.
Best,
Michele Spinak

Ya know, this might actually be a good way to expose the good side of Furry Fandom to the general public.

Given the more notorious examples of media exposure we've seen, I'm not so sanguine about how good an 'introduction' to the fandom this would be. This show's hook is being pregnant and having some real problem. It's not "I'm pregnant and an electrician." Here's a list of shows off the website:
- I'm Pregnant and Addicted
- I'm Pregnant and Homeless
- I'm Pregnant and I Have An Eating Disorder
- I'm Pregnant and 55 Years Old
- I'm Pregnant and Bipolar
- I'm Pregnant and In Prison
This is a show about personal trainwrecks, maladjusted people who have serious problems or have mismanaged their lives. It is NOT a good platform for introducing the furry fandom as "pretty normal." This person should be ignored or politely told to go somewhere else. No good will come of this. This show wants someone who's considered a freak as a hook to draw viewers in.
I realize that somewhere in this fandom, there will be a person who is hungry enough for attention that they could convince themselves that going on this show will bring approval and positive attention. Just remember Chewfox's example. She went on that stupid show and ended up looking like... a freak to the general public, just as the producers wanted.
In summary, I think contacting these people would be a mistake. They aren't interested in providing a balanced, postivie view of people in the fandom. They want something that will draw in viewers.

Stay away from shock media. This isn't an opportunity for the fandom in any means. When the 48 year old "soccer mom" in Kansas tunes into the show, understanding the fandom will not be the image in her mind.
It can be exciting to be contacted by the media, and you may have good intentions in mind but you won't have control of how they edit what you give them. These "media contacts" to furry sites is not rare at all. In fact anthrocon has been receiving them regularly and here is a recent one: http://www.anthrocon.org/node/4681
They are not getting what they want from the larger furry organizations so it appears they are seeking out the smaller organizations that may be more naive to their tactics.
I would trash the e-mail and think no further on the subject and use your creativity and energy building up AFF to be a great organization and convention!
*Hugs* =^,^=
Here is a three part video of Uncle Kage speaking about the subject of the media called "Putting Furry in a better light". The video was shot and posted by Kijani Lion and took place at RainFurrest 2009

Furry and Pregnant Program
After speaking with Michele Spinak, I have gathered the following information.
Starting with the other programs previously made:
Pregnant and Homeless
Pregnant and Bipolar
Pregnant and 55
Pregnant and In Prison
Pregnant and Addicted
It would seem that the media “Discovery Health” is looking for a pregnant furry due to give birth around March or April, the information they will be wanting is “How being a furry will affect the life of that furry and her kin during and after pregnancy”. The media will also be doing a video coverage and interview over a three day period in which the chosen furry will be financially compensated for their time. I also found out after hearing the views on the previous episodes above, it would appear that this may make the furry fandom look incredible bad, but as Michele told me that this media coverage was not to find disorders or major problems, but to collect more information regarding an abnormal lifestyle not normally researched, and was also told that the chosen furry would need to put a lot of thought into the thinks she or they say during the interview, as soon as I was told that I immediately asked if the furry or furries will have the option to remove certain things shown or said on the media coverage, and the answer was yes, if there were particular things shown or said they may be removed if wanted. Another thing I had found out was that Michele Spinak is a “Free Lance” Media Worker, which can also seem like a scary thing, however I believe that even though this is media coverage, it is Discovery Health and after many years of watching, it is unlikely they are really looking to make anyone or anything look bad. More information regarding this matter was sent to me after the phone call and will be posted below.
P.S. I waas asked to re-contact Michele in one week on Monday
Thank you for reading, Wolffur Wolf

It was a pleasure speaking with you earlier. Below is some info about the show. Please feel free to give me a call if you have any additional questions.
I’m Pregnant And…” is a six-part series for Discovery Health Channel produced by Sirens Media. In every episode, viewers will follow the expectant mom through her day-to-day routine, dealing with the hardships of pregnancy while navigating through her difficult circumstances. We’ll follow the mom through the labor and delivery of the long-awaited child, and see the conclusion of the story through a post-delivery update.
Each episode is a half hour long and is sort of split into three parts, pre-birth and backstory, the birth, and the follow up after the birth.
As far as time line goes here is the following information I have:
We would like to film the pre-birth/backstory (3 day shoot) in mid February. We are hoping the birth (1 day shoot) would occur sometime in the months of March or April. Then we would return a couple of weeks later to for a follow up shoot (2 day shoot) to see how mom and baby are doing.
We do offer compensation to the person who is chosen by the network. That we discuss with that person upon being picked.
Thanks,
Michele Spinak

I think that this is a bad, bad idea... why do you want to push it forward? I really don't want to have to explain all of this to my family and friends, should they see it. I like being able to freely share my artwork with them.
