Post Armed security
Im curious why the security at this con has decided to be armed? At concerts and such, the security there usually does not have a firearm handy. Never at a convention , in the history of furry conventions has there ever been a reason to have or discharge a firearm.

I understand 2nd amendment rights and such, but does it send the right message to have the security of your small furry con armed with deadly force?

...did I miss something?
Where does it say that they will be armed?

It does not say they will be armed, however the head of security is known to carry a handgun at all times, including social events and such.

I would just hope that the con staff makes it clear that the security should be unarmed.

Post Concealed vs. Open Carry
It could be possible you're confusing "carrying a firearm" with "displaying a firearm"? Odds are a fair number of people you pass every day on the street are carrying a concealed firearm for their own protection and you'd never know it. The carry of concealed weapons (with a valid concealed weapons permit honored by the State of Washington, or course) is protected by Washington State Law (RCW 9.41) and cannot be banned in public or private spaces (including conventions) without special dispensation from the State (such as that given to airports, courthouses, and schools). However, so called "open carry" of firearms, while legal in most public spaces, may be disallowed by property owners or event organizers. This kind of weapon display is specifically against convention rules:
Quote:
As per the requests of hotel security, we cannot allow the open display of weapons except those authorized by law. This includes firearms; blade weapons (peace bonded or not); and replica weapons (if it looks like a real knife or gun in any way, it should not be brought to the convention). These weapons are prohibited even if they are a part of your costume.

All that said, All Fur Fun is very careful about their staff selection and always has the best interests of convention goers at heart, especially in the selection of security personnel. AFF security is there to ensure that everyone has a safe and fun time, and to make sure any problems that arise are dealt with in the smoothest way possible. Please rest assured that ANY use of force will be seen as a last resort.

I'm curious as to your source of information. You might be barking up the wrong tree.

I believe there has been a instance where a fur with a concealed weapon's permit brought their piece and had it out in public. They were asked to avoid such actions.

I'm curious to why you needed to stir this up?
No where has it said the security will be armed. Regardless of if it's true or not if the head of security is armed, if he has a concealed weapons permit, that's his own prerogative and none of your business.
It is especially none of your business to go spouting off about it.
Furthermore, while I don't know what the hotel's individual policy is about weapons and permits and such, I'm sure anyone facing this circumstance will follow what the hotel allows. If concealed weapons with permits is allowed, so be it. If they are not, I'm certain they would not bring them.
I should remind you of the very thin line you are walking.
You can either deal with it, or don't bother showing up.
